Why is Circles special to you?

Spending the day with the Chivenor Military Ladies Choir was exceptional fun.  They are all such fine singers, they had learnt the song off the book in record time, and the recording went very smoothly.   It’s particularly wonderful for me to have the opportunity to work with them, and takes me back to when I was in the Royal Navy based at Dartmouth in Devon as a 19 year old midshipman.   Happy times!

What do you love the most about the finished song?

I love the combined sound of the 55 musicians in the Arts Symphonic Orchestra, the Chivenor Military Ladies Choir, and a song that sits well in my vocal range.  The positive lyrics just remind me of the beauty in life, if only we open up our senses to become more aware of it, rather than worrying so much about everything!

What was the inspiration to write Circles?

Many of my early songs were heartbreak songs; I’ve always enjoyed singing sad songs;  the most popular operas involve the soprano dying in the final act.  This time however, my sister Joanna Shipp had challenged me to start writing some more positive love songs.   So Circles hopefully will reinforce the beautiful concept of having someone new in life, bringing all that positive energy, hope, and chemistry.

Who did you write the song with and why?

I wrote the song with John Butler in a jamming session.   Exploring our own creativity is always fun, and everyone should try it, whatever their art form.  Robert Emery not only then orchestrated the song but he wrote the choral harmony for the Chivenor Military Ladies Choir.

My name is Jamie Lonsdale, and I'm a singer/songwriter.

Music for me as a child was always my hobby; and now it has become my passion and a big part of my life. I started my career in the Royal Navy - it didn’t even cross my mind that one day I would record an album. My first song came to me five years ago, and luckily for me, they keep on coming…

I try and enjoy my life to the full. I’ve been touched by joy, blessings, and at rare moments, tragic loss; music has supported me throughout all of this. All these experiences have triggered deep emotions, and this I feel has empowered my songwriting.
